imageVisit and inquire about the events, people and places that shaped our region. Historic buildings, numerous interesting places, museums, heritage sites, commemorative plaques and tributes to our settlers are presented in each small community.

The museums showing +=+ are members of the Prescott-Russell Tourism Association (PRTA).

Historical site and interpretation centre, the L’Orignal Old Jail (1825-1998) was the oldest prison still in operation in Ontario when it closed in 1998. Visit the alcove style cells that were witnesses to inmates’ secrets and sorrows for almost 175 years. Learn about the evolution of punishments and treatments inflicted to prisoners. Immerse yourself in the prison life of past centuries.Guide tours are offered from June to August. Closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.

Special events are held throughout the season. Mark the dates for Collectors’ Weekend (June 19-20), Murder Mystery Evening (July 10), Art & Music in the Court Yard (July 17-18), Stories and Legends (August 7), The Golden Days of Caledonia Springs (August 28) and Fright Night (October 30). This local museum holds a multitude of exhibits that alternate throughout the year and mainly display the history of our community. Entrance is free or by donation. Open every Sunday 1- 4 p.m. or by appointment.

The Vankleek Hill Museum, located in the shopping district, is in an 1834 building and interprets local history through the prism of a general store.

The museum is a charming village of the 1920’s-1930’s. 29 historical buildings, heritage trades, entertainment, interpretive activities, exhibits and music. Special Sunday events. Open from mid-May to mid-October. Audio-guided tours for adults and children.
