DSCN6283 thumb_thumb_thumbL’ORIGNAL, December 21st, 2011 - Mayor Francois St-Amour was acclaimed yesterday as Warden by members of the Council of the United Counties of Prescott and Russell (UCPR). During a special ceremony held prior to the first meeting of the new Council, Mr. St-Amour was sworn-in and delivered his inaugural speech in front of members of Council, M.P. Pierre Lemieux, M.P.P. Grant Crack, County staff as well as members of his family and members of Council of his own municipality, La Nation.

During his inaugural address, Mr. St-Amour shared his priorities for 2012. “On the economic front, I wish to ensure the stability of the new tourism organization, further the development of the Ottawa River in partnership with the Regional Municipalities of Argenteuil and Papineau, promote the Larose Forest, and work on strengthening our ties with our neighbouring counties of Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry. With regard to infrastructures, I plan to continue improving our road network and begin the environmental assessment for the widening of Highway 17. Generally speaking, I aim to pursue efforts toward fairness for farm property tax rebates, find a solution to the problem of uncollected fines, and explore the possibility of a regional contract for police services.”

Resident of Fournier and retired from Xerox since 2009, Mr. St-Amour was also councilor of the Municipality of La Nation for seven years after which he was elected mayor by acclamation in 2010.  

The Corporation of the United Counties of Prescott and Russell is a regional government that manages programs and offers services to its 83,000 residents. ThePrescottand Russell Economic Development and Tourism’s mandate is to encourage and ease economic development initiatives in the counties. It collaborates with hundreds of stakeholders from the agricultural, commercial and tourism sectors. The department is also responsible for the tourism marketing of Prescott and Russell.
