The United Counties of Prescott and Russell donate an ambulance toLa Cité collégiale

L’Orignal (Ontario), November 24, 2011 - The United Counties of Prescott and Russell (UCPR) have donated a second used ambulance to La Cité collégiale’s Paramedics Program.

It is with pride that Michel Chrétien, Director of Emergency Services, announced the transfer of the 2005 Ford vehicle, concluded on November 22 during a Council meeting. According to Mrs. Lise Bourgeois, President of La Cité collégiale, “It is thanks to partners like the United Counties of Prescott and Russell that La Cité collégiale can truly fulfill its role as a leader in health education. The donation of the ambulance not only makes this essential tool available to our Paramedics students, it also allows for the training of the succession that will be equal to the test and ready to enter the job market.”

“We are pleased to contribute to the training of future paramedics by improving the quality of this program’s equipment. Incidentally, many of our ambulance attendants are graduates of La Cité collégiale, and some current students may one day become members of our emergency services team,” added Jean-Yves Lalonde, Warden of the UCPR.

A few years ago, the UCPR had donated a first ambulance, a 2002 model, to the college. It was still being used by the Paramedics Program despite the fact it did not meet the program’s current standards and was becoming more and more difficult to maintain.

The new ambulance will be used in La Cité collégiale’s new 911 Institute, a unique training centre in Canada, where it will continue to play a primary role in student training.

The Corporation of the United Counties of Prescott and Russell is a regional government that manages programs and offers services to its 83,000 residents. Prescott and Russell encompass eight municipalities and the Emergency Services Department offers land ambulance, 9-1-1, and emergency preparedness services to the population within the Counties’ vast territory, which covers 2,002 km2. The Department comprises eight ambulance service points and some 100 employees.
