We have a cycling team specially trained to respond quickly during the course of an event like a parade or a festival. Members of the cycling team are able to respond to medical calls while awaiting the arrival of the ambulance, which could be delayed because of traffic, a parade or a street closure. They can provide care for minor injury only requiring first aid and not an ambulance.
Equipment
Our facilities include two bicycles, a defibrillator, a first aid kit, an oxygen kit and a medication bag. The cycling team members have received specialized training (Canbike II) to learn how to ride a bike in areas where traffic is restricted and to learn to ride their bikes in traffic.
Program Partners
This program was established in 2002 with the financial support from organizations and companies from the region such as:
- Intersport in Hawkesbury;
- Optimist Clubs and Knights of Columbus from several districts of Prescott and Russell;
- The dealer Dupuis Ford of Casselman.
