SAFE GRAD AND REGIONAL ACTION COMMITTEE FOR SAFETY (CARS)

The purpose of this program is to educate grade 12 students in Prescott and Russell of the consequences of drinking and driving (alcohol and / or drugs).

A realistic scenario is created with the funeral service, OPP, RCMP, paramedic service, fire departments, the Health Unit and the collaboration of students who want to take part in a scenario. A simulation of a serious accident occurs in front of the students. Everything is in place to shock the high school students: makeup, costumes, equipment and even a rear wrecked car!

This program was implemented in 2002 and eleven (11) high schools have benefited from it so far. Comments from teenagers are very positive.

If you wish to participate with your school, contact Mr. Gilles Lacroix by e-mail at This email address is being protected from spambots. Because of the number of actors involved and the logistics requirements, applications should be submitted one year in advance.

Race AGAINST DRUGS (RAD)

Race against Drugs is an annual program offered to all Grade 6 students attending French and English schools in Prescott and Russell. The program objectives are to:
  • inform young people about the dangers of drugs,
  • guide them to make better decisions,
  • help them cope with peer pressure,
  • prevent and / or reduce consumption.

Race against Drugs is usually held during a designated week by the RCMP.

United in a spirit of camaraderie and healthy competition between schools, kids will complete a circuit that leads to several stops at different stations. Each station represents a different type of drug as well as its short and long term effects, harmful effects of smoking and drinking, the importance of good nutrition and many other important tips before attending high school. The stations are organized by different community partners.

This program was established in 2003 and each year of experience allows us to enrich it further. Feedback from teachers, students and parents are very positive.

PUBLIC ACCESS DEFIBRILLATION Program (PAD)

A public defibrillation program was established in 2008 in the Prescott and Russell area.

The objective of this project is to increase survival rates with immediate defibrillation by placing defibrillators in public places throughout the United Counties of Prescott and Russell. Most of our schools, arenas and community centers are equipped with an automatic defibrillator. Training is provided annually to employees in these locations.

MASS TRAINING IN CPR

This Mass Training is a CPR, Level A and AED (External Defibrillator) free training available to public. Together with the Heart & Stroke Foundation, we have made training available to all municipalities of the United Counties of Prescott and Russell for all age groups.

Our goal is to have as many people as possible learn CPR so they can be prepared to respond to a cardiac arrest, as the immediate response is the first link in the chain of survival. This massive training will be repeated annually due to the massif turnout of participants during its first edition.
