Motto
«Sic dat diligentia terra» is the motto of the United Counties of Prescott & Russell and means "He who works hard reaps a good harvest". This motto shows the importance of agriculture, since, over 70% of the land is dedicated to it.

The dairy and poultry production, and field crops of the region are among the most productive in Ontario. The agri-food industry also contributes to the economic growth of the region.

The diversification and agro-food transformation offer investors many business opportunities with the availability of raw material such as grains, oilseeds and dairy products. Furthermore, the presence of the Alfred Campus of the University of Guelph promotes synergy in research, development and marketing of new agricultural technologies. The Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs also works with farmers and agri-food businesses.

Regional Products and Agrotourism

Prescott and Russell boasts a large number of non-traditional farms. Our farmers and breeders are proud to offer their products, directly at the farm, in store, or at the market. Several annual events such as Agri-Tour, Vankleek Hill, Riceville and Russell agricultural fairs and the Festival of Flavours celebrate agriculture as a way of life and promote regional food products.
